The 24th and 25th of October 2012 The Sámi University College welcomes you to a two day academic conference entitled Duodji 2012 - International Conference on Indigenous Arts, Crafts and Design. The topics of the conference will include
- Sami handicrafts
- Indigenous art methodology
- Art theories.
Different academic disciplines will be represented at the conference such as duodji, arts, pedagogy, and traditional knowledge.
With this conference Sámi University College wants to highlight research that takes place in indigenous cultural expressions. In addition to bring together researchers studying crafts, traditional arts, design and art in an indigenous perspective, the conference will also be a meeting place for the duojárat, craftmen who join to exhibitions and workshops.
The main goal of the conference is to discuss indigenous cultural expressions based on multi-disciplinary perspectives in different contexts and indigenous approaches, but with emphasis in the Sámi perspective. This way the conference will strengthen the network of researchers on indigenous peoples’ cultural expressions and emphasize the academic duodji discipline in general.
